Rangikura School celebrated the last day of Movin’March by running five simultaneous “walking school buses” bringing children from all over Ascot Park with the help of teachers and parents.
Movin’March Lead Teacher Liesl van der Merwe says “we have loved Movin’March this year, I jumped at it as a way to get our kids active, think about how they get to school and get to know each other better. One of our “buses” just randomly starting collecting rubbish on their walk to school this morning. So it’s a great way to get kids connected to their neighbourhoods and create awareness as well.”
Movin’March is led by Greater Wellington Regional Council and finishes Friday 29th March. More than half of all primary schools in the Wellington region were on board with Movin’March this year and resulted in a 40% increase in the number of Porirua Schools taking part.
